Why create a Bitcoin Circular Economy in Jericoacoara?
From its inception, Bitcoin has held the promise of empowering the unbanked and wresting control from centralized authorities, placing it squarely in the hands of individuals. However, this promise has long remained just out of reach. With governmental and financial institutions reluctant to relinquish their grip on currency, it falls upon society to collectively drive this change—and the time for action is now.
On September 7th, 2021, a significant step was taken as Bitcoin was recognized as legal tender in El Salvador. Inspired by this milestone, Praia Bitcoin, also known as Bitcoin Beach Brazil, embarked on a mission to replicate the success of the El Salvadorian Bitcoin Beach experiment.
This movement has reached the shores of Jericoacoara, a picturesque village nestled within a National Park, located 300 km from Fortaleza on the captivating west coast of Ceará, in the northeast of Brazil and despite Jericoacoara's status as one of the globe's premier tourist destinations, the absence of a single ATM has left many locals marginalized from the traditional financial system.
They have been abandoned by conventional banks. However, with Bitcoin now on the scene, a beacon of financial inclusivity shines brightly.

Founded by musician Fernando Motolese, Praia Bitcoin Brazil is an initiative that
supports Bitcoin-only activities in the real-world economy, aiming to integrate the four pillars of the Bitcoin circular economy: education, spirituality, recreation, and technology.
We're experiencing an unprecedented and fantastic story, which has many volunteers from different parts of the world.
A project that is pure proof of work, with long-term and lofty goals that will leave a mark in the history of
Bitcoin adoption, helping not only our locals, but also other communities around the world.
How Did Praia Bitcoin Get Started?
Praia Bitcoin's journey commenced with the visionary act of our founder, Fernando Motolese, who kick-started our mission by aiding local workers, artisans, fishermen, and street artists in Jericoacoara. He provided an initial donation of 0.02 BTC, enabling the creation of Lightning and On-Chain wallets, marking the beginning of a financial revolution in our community.
Since launching our crowdfunding campaign, the overwhelming support from over 1,000 donors has been nothing short of inspirational, contributing a total of 3.86 BTC. This generosity has empowered us to establish Brazil's first Lightning service provider, a monumental step towards democratizing Bitcoin access and usage.
We've successfully integrated 21 local businesses into our Bitcoin ecosystem, equipping them with the necessary training and promotional materials to accept Bitcoin payments, thereby fostering an inclusive financial environment.
The year 2023 was pivotal for Praia Bitcoin, highlighted by the inaugural Praia Bitcoin Carnaval Conference, which featured 12 esteemed speakers and attracted 100 enthusiasts. This event also witnessed a groundbreaking achievement in the realm of P2P payments, setting a world record with 71 lightning transactions executed in just 3 minutes and 33 seconds.
In this environment, we are fostering a series of educational and entrepreneurial initiatives aimed at catalyzing the widespread adoption of Bitcoin as a medium of exchange. Our goal is not just to embrace a new currency, but to empower individuals, revitalize local economies, and pave the way for a more equitable financial future.
The Circular Economy Big Bang
During the Bitcoin Prague conference on July 2023, marked another milestone with the launch of the Bitcoinize Machine crowdfunding campaign on Geyser, which swiftly became the platform's most successful project ever. This initiative not only saw the deployment of over 500 Bitcoin payment machines across 31 countries but also underscored our commitment to global financial inclusion.
Throughout this period, Fernando Motolese took the message of Circular Economies to the global stage, attending conferences in Prague, Amsterdam, Riga, Lugano, and the United Arab Emirates, and promoting the innovative Bolt Card and Bitcoinize Machine technology.
Objectives and Key Results for 2024
Our dedication extends beyond our local community as we assist other regions in establishing their circular economies, leveraging the tools and knowledge pioneered in Jericoacoara. As we move into 2024, our goal is to solidify the impact of our experiment, enrich our local economy, and share our insights with the global Bitcoin community.

1. Community and Educational Infrastructure at Pousada do Serrote
Transformation of Pousada do Serrote into a multifunctional community center that includes a co-working space, cultural center, content production studio, accommodations for volunteers, and swimming lessons for 100 children.
2. Establishment of the Jericoacoara Bitcoin Community
Open a physical address in Jericoacoara Village, issue 1000 Lightning cards for students and local workers, installation of 50 Bitcoinize terminals, full integration of bitcoin banking services into daily life, teaching the community about self-custody as a primary goal, and create a system to facilitate bill payments and small withdrawals.
3. Conference in November to Set a World Record
Organizing a conference in 5, 6 an 7 of November with the aim of setting a world record, ensuring sufficient fundraising for the project's operations in the following year, and initiating the production of a documentary to be released during Carnival.
4. Ongoing Nutritional and Educational Support for Children
Maintaining the provision of fruits for 100 children at the municipal school, offer two rooms for educational activities on the community council, and developing an incentive program for volunteers committed to community support
5. Replicate the Bitcoin Smiles Initiative
We'll start replicating the 'Bitcoin Smiles' Initiative in Jericoacoara, renting a local clinic, inviting Dr. Enrique to provide dental care, ensuring treatment for vulnerable community members, promoting positivity, and improving overall well-being through enhanced dental health.
